This movie is about a young girl growing up in Sacramento in the early 2000s and I liked it a lot. It’s a small movie — we follow Lady Bird through her senior year in high school, and into her first few months of college. Not much happens. But it had an emotional honesty, in the interactions between the girl and her parents, and with other students, that is rare in movies. And, given that nuns have been a punching bag in American popular culture since Holden Caulfield, it was nice to see such a positive portrayal of a nun, and of religion in general.
Highly recommended.
