After all the full-length, often bloated movie adaptations of Phillip K. Dick’s stories (see above) it’s nice to see his short stories presented in 45-minute episodes, a time frame more appropriate to the genre. Some of the episodes are better than others — some of the stories are, too. And some of the ideas seem dated, but that’s largely because PKD’s ideas have been so widely copied over the past 50 years. Still, watching these stories you realize that PKD’s great gift was not so much in his imaginative ideas about the future as in his depictions of how people might react to these strange new worlds. PKD is not the only writer to spin a tale of a woman who finds her husband has been taken over by space aliens. But only PKD would think to imagine what would happen if she prefers the new version.
